My Cookbase — Privacy Policy

Last updated 2026-09-28.

My Cookbase is a personal recipe-formatting app. This page explains what data the app handles and where it goes. The app has no accounts and no sign-in.

What the app sends, and why

When you paste recipe text, paste a recipe URL, or photograph a cookbook page, the app sends that content to My Cookbase's own server (hosted on Cloudflare) so it can be reformatted. The server forwards it to Anthropic's Claude API to do the reformatting, and returns the structured result to the app. Recipe text, photos, and page content are used only to produce that result — the server does not store or log them. The app asks for camera access only so you can photograph a cookbook page for import.

Video import: when you import a recipe from a video, the video is processed on your device. Only about 8 still frames from it, a transcript of what is said, and the text shown on screen are sent for extraction, and, the same as cookbook photos, they are not stored.

Transcript lookup: when a TikTok, Instagram, or YouTube video's caption has no recipe, the post's link is sent to Supadata to fetch the video's transcript. Only the link is sent, never anything about you. Transcripts of public posts may be kept by the server for up to 30 days, keyed by the link, so the same video isn't looked up twice.

What is recorded

To keep the service running reliably and within budget, the server records, per request: a random id your device generated for itself (not tied to your name, Apple ID, or any account), the app version, whether you use the free or Pro version, whether the request succeeded, which model handled it, response time, token counts, and — for URL or cookbook imports — the source site or cookbook name you're importing from. Once a day, when you open the app, it also sends that random id and app version on their own, so the number of people using the app can be counted. Recipe text, photo contents, and the recipe's author are never recorded. These records are kept for up to three months.

To confirm requests come from a genuine copy of the app, the app uses Apple's App Attest. When your device first proves this, the server stores an identifier for the device's attestation key, that key's public half, and the time it was issued. None of this identifies you personally. Your network address is used only momentarily to limit request rates and is not recorded by My Cookbase, though Cloudflare, which hosts the server, may keep standard request logs under its own policies.

Where recipes are stored

Recipes you save, your Journal, notes you add, Collections, the feats (achievements) you've earned, photos attached to recipes, checklist progress, and any edits you make are stored on your device. If iCloud is available, they also sync between your own devices through your private iCloud (Apple's CloudKit) storage. That data lives in your iCloud account, governed by Apple's terms and your iCloud settings — My Cookbase's server never receives it and cannot read it.

Allergies

If you list allergies in Options, that list stays on your device only. It is not synced to iCloud and is never sent to My Cookbase's server or to Anthropic. The app uses it to flag ingredients with matching text; this is a simple text match, not medical advice, and can miss things — always review each recipe's ingredients yourself.

Feedback

If you use Send Feedback in Options, the message you type is sent to My Cookbase's server along with your app version, device model, iOS version, and part of your random install id, and forwarded to the developer as a notification through Pushover. It is used only to understand and fix problems, and is not stored by the server itself.

Third parties

Anthropic processes recipe content to reformat it, subject to its own API terms and privacy policy. Supadata fetches transcripts of social video posts from their links (see above). Cloudflare hosts My Cookbase's server. Apple provides iCloud sync and App Attest. Pushover delivers feedback and operational alerts (such as usage summaries) to the developer. If you import a recipe from a URL, the app fetches that page directly from your device. No data is sold, and none is used for advertising or tracking.

Notifications

If you start a cooking timer, the app schedules a local notification and, on supported devices, a Live Activity — both handled entirely on-device by iOS, not by My Cookbase's server.

Your choices

Clear My Recipes in Options removes every saved recipe from your device; with iCloud on, deletions sync to your other devices. You can turn iCloud sync off for My Cookbase in iOS Settings, and deleting the app removes its on-device data. Because the server keeps no recipes and no account, there is nothing on it to delete on your behalf beyond the non-identifying records described above.
